Josephine Gwynn has been a member of the Club since December 2021 and has served as an MOD for the past 2 years. She is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney, where she is the Director of Participation Sciences in the Sydney School of Health Sciences. In this role she formally mentors Academic colleagues along with educating undergraduates and conducting research. Her passion for over 30 years has been Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and well being, with the privilege of working with communities around Australia. Josephine lives in Newcastle she has a weekly commute with restful stays in the Residence of the Club through which she has gathered a strong understanding of the Club’s membership, programs, and daily rhythm. She deeply values the community of capable, curious, and accomplished women who constitute the Club.
Josephine brings extensive governance and leadership experience from her committee work across Universities of Sydney and Newcastle. Her work includes overseeing large academic teams, supporting students who experience challenges, and engaging in research programs that inform government policy. With a background spanning rural, remote, and urban settings, nationally competitive research funding success in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heath, considerable public speaking and mentoring experience, she offers a breadth of expertise aligned with the responsibilities of a Director of The Women’s Club.
