Sharon Dodua Otoo is an award-winning novelist and political activist. She writes prose as well as essays, edits a books series and curates a literature festival. In 2016, she won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize, a major international literary award. She has four children and lives in Berlin. As an activist, Sharon Dodua Otoo is associated with several political associations, including the ‘Initiative Black People in Germany’ and the Black queer feminist ‘ADEFRA’. In 2022, she curated the Black German Language Literature Festival “Resonances” in cooperation with Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen. In November 2023, Sharon Dodua Otoo will visit Australia for the first time, to present her debut novel ‘Ada's Room’ and to speak about her work. The kaleidoscopic novel spans generations and continents, revealing the connections between four women in their struggle for survival. It has been translated into many languages. The Goethe-Institut and the University of Sydney are proud to co-present Sharon Dodua Otoo here in Australia.
