Choro das Minas brings together a collective of passionate musicians dedicated to sharing and amplifying the voices of Brazilian female composers in Australia. Their program explores the history of choro, Brazil's first urban music genre and the musical foundation for samba, bossa nova, MPB and many other beloved styles.
Through captivating live performance and storytelling, the ensemble shines a light on pioneering Brazilian women composers from the late nineteenth century to the present day. Audiences will discover the remarkable stories behind the music, including the barriers these women overcame to have their work published, the societal expectations they challenged, and the personal sacrifices they made in pursuit of their artistic careers.

The musicians of Choro das Minas have each spent more than a decade performing Brazilian music across Australia in ensembles spanning samba, choro, MPB, forró and bossa nova. Since forming in 2024, the group has performed more than 30 concerts and festival appearances, including the Marrickville Music Festival and Stanmore Festival.
